Service Agreement

About Our Service Agreements

A written service agreement defines the renovation work, pricing and responsibilities for a specific project. This page explains the subjects that a project agreement should address; it does not replace your signed contract.

Please review your project documents and ask questions before approving the work. Nothing on this page limits rights that applicable law provides to consumers.

Scope of Work

Your project agreement should describe the included work, relevant drawings, material specifications and any exclusions.

The scope should also identify responsibilities for demolition, debris removal, site protection, installation and finishing, where applicable. Work that does not appear in the agreed scope requires further discussion and written approval.

Pricing and Payment

Your written agreement should explain the contract price or pricing method, applicable taxes, allowances and payment schedule.

An allowance represents an amount allocated to a selection or item that has not yet been finalized. Your agreement should explain how a selection above or below that allowance affects the final price.

Deposits, progress payments and final payment requirements must appear in the project documents. This website does not establish a standard deposit or payment schedule.

Changes to the Project

A written change order records an approved change to the scope, materials, price or schedule.

Please request changes through your designated project contact. Both parties should confirm the change and its consequences before the additional or revised work begins.

Scheduling and Delays

Your project agreement should identify the anticipated schedule and any conditions that affect the start or completion date.

Material availability, approvals, site conditions and approved changes can affect progress. The agreement should explain how the parties communicate and address delays.

Permits and Approvals

Your agreement should identify responsibility for determining, obtaining and paying for required permits or approvals.

Some projects may also require condominium approval, engineering documents or inspections. The applicable requirements depend on the property, location and proposed work.

Property Access and Site Conditions

The project documents should explain access arrangements, working hours and responsibilities for preparing the property.

Unexpected conditions, including concealed damage or previously unrecorded alterations, may require further assessment. Any resulting changes to the work, price or schedule should follow the agreed change process.

Completion and Warranty

Your agreement should explain the completion review, the process for recording outstanding items and any workmanship warranty that applies.

Manufacturer warranties may have separate terms, registration requirements and exclusions. Please retain your contract, invoices and relevant product documentation.

Cancellation and Resolving Concerns

Cancellation rights, fees and procedures depend on the agreement and applicable law. Contract language cannot remove consumer rights that the law protects.

Please raise project concerns with your designated contact so the parties can review the facts and discuss a resolution. Your agreement should identify any further dispute resolution process.
